1993 - Arthur Ashe champion US tennis star died this day 1993 at age 49 from AIDS complications. In 1985, Ashe became the first black male to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Ashe contracted AIDS through a blood transfusion in 1988 but did not publicly announce it until 1992
